SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury Symphony Orchestra (SSO) conductor Jeffrey Schoyen puts down his baton and picks up his cello during a solo performance 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 15, in the Great Hall of Holloway Hall.

Schoyen graduated with distinction from the New England Conservatory of Music, completed an M.F.A. at Carnegie Mellon University and earned a D.M.A. at the State University of New York at Stony Brook, renowned for its performing arts program. He also received a Frank Huntington Beebe Grant to study in London with William Pleeth and is a Tanglewood Gustav Golden Award recipient. He has performed throughout the United States, Germany, Mexico and Spain.

“The cello has given me a path through life,” Schoyen said. “I was enthralled with it from the beginning.  Just about everything that I do musically is a result of my work on the instrument. I became interested in conducting, and interested in teaching because of my work as a cellist.”
