At ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, computer science students have access to state-of-the-art technology. There are five research/teaching/study labs accessible by students: Henson High Performance Computing Lab (HPCL) is equipped with 34 Linux stations configured for computing intensive jobs across multiple machines as a cluster, with multiple GPUs/CPUs; two 30-station teaching lab with Windows/Linux dual system; and two student study lounges with 3- and 4- station connected to Linux server.

The REAL Robotics/Drone lab located off campus is equipped with robotics, DJI Phantom III & IV drones and MakerBot Replicator 2X 3D printers and students can use this lab for their class projects and undergraduate research projects on various application of the equipment.

The Cyber Security Lab, located in TETC112, features an isolated network with 4 physical hosts, file servers, and both operational and vulnerable virtual machines distributed across three clustered physical servers. Students can use the facility for class projects and undergraduate research on various cyber security topics, including penetration testing, hackathons, capture the flag events, certification preparation, and other related activities.

All labs are open only to computer science students with ID card access.

Undergraduate research is a strong emphasis in our program. Our faculty members are actively involved in research activities. Many computer science students choose to engage in projects with faculty, some of which have led to student or student/faculty publications in refereed journals. Projects have been presented at professional meetings, ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s annual Student Research Conference (ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½SRC), and some have won awards. Here are some undergraduate research opportunities we offer:

• NSF Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Explore Emerging Computing in Science and Engineering (EXERCISE) program.
• Students engaged in faculty-mentored research may be funded by grants from ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½, the Henson School and individual faculty members.
• Students may receive college credit for their research with a professor. Registration for the research project (COSC 390) must be approved prior to starting work on that project.

Directed Consulting is the centerpiece of the Center for Applied Mathematics & Science (CAMS) and is a four credit undergraduate course which provides students with the opportunity to work on a real - not just realistic - problem for a client. While providing this educational experience for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) students, CAMS helps businesses, industries and educational agencies solve problems in strategic ways.

To enhance classroom learning, our internship program provides an academically coordinated professional experience for our students. Throughout the year, our students can work in private sectors, government agencies and non-profit organizations, use their computer science skills to solve real-world problems and earn credits applied towards their degree.

Student Clubs are student organized, faculty supported groups that engage in extracurricular activities, support departmental scholarship, and organize computer science related events. Current math and computer science-related clubs: Cybersecurity Club, GULLs Robotics Club, Math & Computer Science Club, and Women in STEM Club. Some club-sponsored programs include:

• Mentorship Program:
  This program allows new students to choose an upperclassman as their mentor. Mentors will share their academic experiences and help the mentees develop strong study habits and proper time management skills. Mentors also help the new students meet fellow classmates and increase their social interactions.
   
• Gull Code Competition
  This is an annual programming competition organized by the club. Participants compete in groups of three to write programs in C++ or Java to solve given problems. Top teams will receive prize money. There will also door prizes and free food and T shirts for all participants. We invite a variety of employers to join the event so our students can connect with them and seek potential internship and job opportunities.

ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Chapter of UPE was established in spring 2017. UPE is an international honor society in computing and information disciplines. The mission of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½ Chapter of UPE is to stimulate students' interest in computer science, promote high scholarship, and recognize academic excellence. Computer science students are eligible for membership by completing at least 60 semester hours of undergraduate credit including 16 semester hours in the computer science courses, an overall grade point average of at least 3.0, a grade point average of at least 3.0 in all computer science coursework and must rank in the top 35 percent of computer science students at ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½. Note that this is a lifetime membership and our department will pay for your membership fees ($60 per member). This UPE membership will also automatically qualify you for being a member of ÐÇ¿Õ´«Ã½'s honor convocation. Your name will be printed in the honor convocation's booklet. Many opportunities exist for people with a computer science degree and a strong problem solving and communication skills. For example, we have graduates working as software engineer at large corporations such as Google, Microsoft, Yelp, Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, JP Morgan as well as government agencies such as NASA and NSA. Here are some possible career paths for our students:

• Data analytics
• Database Administration
• Entrepreneurship

Some of our graduates also decide to go to graduate schools and their solid undergraduate education helps them get accepted by many prestige graduate schools. They continue to earn advanced degrees in different specialization.
